One of the proudest moments of my career was creating the cover art and 16 interior illustrations for Aimee Mann's album @#%&*! Smilers. The album was nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award for Best Package Design.

The collaboration came about naturally -- Aimee is a fan of my work, and the visual language of my art paired beautifully with her music. As Aimee wrote in the foreword to my monograph "I Love You, OK?": "There are a handful of people in my life who remind me of what art is really all about."

Shepard Fairey also contributed a foreword to the book, writing: "Gary Taxali is one of those rare artists whose work is immediately inviting and familiar, yet idiosyncratic and unmistakable."

Music and art share a deep connection in my work. I have also created artwork for Primus (two silk-screened rock show posters), Pearl Jam, Toots and the Maytals, Danko Jones, Ted Leo (Christmas show poster with Aimee Mann), and Half Japanese (album cover "Jump Into Love").
