The Brain Project Auction - "My Heart Knows You" on Display at Yorkdale Mall
I am proud to have my contribution to The Brain Project, "My Heart Knows You", be among the 100 brains selected by public vote to be auctioned off to raise funds for the Baycrest Foundation to support brain health. The chosen brains are currently on display at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto.
All 100 brains are up for auction on the website Paddle8 until October 31st, 2016. You can bid on my brain on HERE.
Stemming from the idea of our everlasting connection with those we love, “My Heart Knows You” is an homage to this sentiment. A person suffering with from Alzheimer’s disease, or any related form of dementia, may not remember those they know and love. However, their heart surely has recognition. Various fictional characters and words were chosen to convey possible stories and moments in a person’s life. The aim of the piece is to evoke the notion of a ‘mental diary’; a personalized love letter to a partner, family member or friend. The concept appeals to all involved – both to the person afflicted with dementia and to those they know and love. Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease, taking loved ones away from family and friends. Despite this, the bond of love is unfathomable…because our hearts always know.
In April, The Brain Project and Mayor John Tory unveiled my brain at a press conference at City Hall.
For the next few months my brain was on display inside City Hall, and was then moved into Nathan Phillips Square for the public to enjoy.
I created a work-in-progress video about my brain as a way to bring awareness to the project. The Brain Project shared my video as part of their promotion. You can watch the video below.
